Sore Heel or Achilles Tendonitis is a condition characterised by inflammation, irritation, and swelling of the Achilles tendon, the large tendon located at the back of the ankle.
Achilles tendinitis most commonly occurs in runners who have suddenly increased the intensity or duration of their runs. It's also common in middle-aged people who play sports, such as tennis or basketball, only on the weekends.
Pain and stiffness: Especially in the morning or after periods of inactivity.
Tenderness: Pain along the tendon, particularly where it attaches to the heel.
Swelling: Mild swelling or thickening of the tendon.
Limited mobility: Difficulty pointing the toes or pushing off the foot during walking or running.
Overuse and Strain: Frequent physical activities that place stress on the tendon, like running or jumping sports, can lead to overuse injuries.
Sudden Increase in Physical Activity: A rapid increase in the intensity or duration of exercise can strain the Achilles tendon.
Inadequate Footwear: Shoes that do not provide proper support or are worn out can increase the risk.
Obesity: Individuals who are obese often experience an increased strain on the tendon.
